NAIAS moves summer slot to fall 2021

The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) has moved its summer 2021 event slot to next autumn, where it is set to take place between Sept. 28 – Oct. 9, 2021.

“We have talked with many of our partners, particularly the OEMs, and they are fully on board and excited about the date change,” said NAIAS Executive Director Rod Alberts.

Moving forward, the NAIAS will remain a fall show after the inaugural event in September next year. Organizers have secured show dates with TCF Center convention centre in downtown Detroit, Michigan, for the next three years.

“September is an excellent time of year for new product, and at the same time, alleviates the challenges a now crowded spring auto show calendar presents for auto show stakeholders,” said Alberts. “Spreading out major auto shows is a win for everyone, particularly our partners. It gives auto companies an opportunity to give it their best at each and every show, which creates excitement for those who attend, too.”

The Los Angeles Auto Show recently moved its show to May 2021, after NAIAS had already secured a summer spot. And the New York Auto Show was already booked for April 2021. Between the three shows, there was some concern that the timing was too close and the locations too far apart for OEMs to attend more than one event.

The new September slot ensures OEMs are able to prepare in time for NAIAS, which will continue to host seven shows in one: Motor Bella, The Gallery, Press Preview, AutoMobili-D, Industry Preview, Charity Preview and Public Show.

NAIAS has also launched a monthly virtual thought leadership series, Q’d Up Mobility, to provide a glimpse into what people can expect from the 2021 show.
