Foreign OEMs seek delays on India’s new rules

Foreign OEMs want to delay and receive exemptions to India’s planned new quality rules that target imported auto parts, according to Reuters. Automakers are reportedly arguing that the regulations will boost costs, hurt sales, and disrupt supply chains. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to reduce imports to boost local manufacturing to make India more self-sufficient and enable it to play a bigger role in the global supply chain.” It would also reduce lower-quality imports from China.
