Average sales per dealer franchise have declined due to a slowdown in new light vehicle sales in 2019, according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants (DAC).
“In 2017, the average franchise sold 548 vehicles annually and in 2018, this number fell to 530. By the end of 2019, this number settled in at 517 units sold per dealer on average,” said DAC. “Nine brands noted stable or increased sales per dealer despite the overarching trend with Lexus enjoying the largest increase at an additional 37 units sold per dealer.”
Lexus is listed as number one out of five in DAC’s Top Five YoY Change for 2019 thanks to a 37-unit increase, with Volvo in second place with a 33-unit increase due to outstanding sales performance for that year. Toyota ranked third thanks to a 20-unit increase on average, followed by Hyundai (+19) and Kia (+15).
“As expected, the top five brands noting sales per dealer franchise increases outperformed the overall Canadian new light vehicle sales market, securing sales increases in 2019,” said DAC.
In terms of the Top Five Sales per Dealer Franchise in 2019, Toyota’s increase for that year helped it take the top spot with 856 units sold per dealer franchise on average. Mercedes-Benz was the runner up with 777 units, followed by Honda (713), Audi (699), and BMW (692), in terms of average sales per dealer franchise.
Lexus and Hyundai are in the top ten, having secured the sixth and ninth position respectively.
