The winners are in; the Mazda 3 is the 2020 Canadian Car of the Year and the Jaguar I-Pace is the 2020 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year, according to the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).
AJAC made the announcement during the opening ceremony at the Canadian International AutoShow (CIAS) on Media Day in February. Mazda and Jaguar were among the shortlisted potential winners, with the Jaguar I-Pace battery electric vehicle having previously won an overall AJAC award in 2019.
“These awards are AJAC’s highest honour, and it’s with the backing of our members’ real-world assessment and depth of expertise that we declare the Mazda3 2020 Canadian Car of the Year and the Jaguar I-PACE 2020 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year,” said Stephanie Wallcraft, President of AJAC.
The two winners were selected from 51 entries, which included the 2019 category winners and this year’s next-generation (or significantly updated) vehicles. More than 1,200 ballots were submitted for the final votes.
