New EV superstation opens in Montreal

Desjardins and Hydro-Québec on Monday announced the opening of the first electric vehicle urban superstation in the province at the Complexe Desjardins in Montreal, Que.

The project features four 50-kilowatt charging stations and is part of Desjardins’s overall plan to install 200 charging stations throughout Quebec and eastern Ontario by 2021. This is to be done in partnership with Hydro-Québec and the Electric Circuit, and are expected to encourage residents to more quickly adopt EVs.

“We’re very proud of this project, of our partnership with Hydro-Québec, and of everyone’s commitment at Desjardins Group, particularly the caisses in our network that are providing the infrastructure for these charging stations to be built,” said Pauline D’Amboise, Secretary General and Vice-President Governance and Sustainable Development Division.

D’Amboise said this project is one of many decisions the group made in recent years to accelerate the energy transition. Desjardins Group’s operations are now carbon-neutral, according to the company, which adds that it has also invested in renewable energy projects, and lowered the carbon footprint its investment portfolios — among other things.

“We’ll continue to work with Hydro-Québec to develop innovative and energy-efficient transportation solutions,” said D’Amboise.
