Connected cars, consumer data and cybersecurity — these are three important areas that are expected to gain momentum in the coming years within the automotive industry, while also pointing to the importance that data itself will play in the sector. Data jobs are also among the best jobs of the year, according to CareerCast’s 2019 Jobs Rated report.
“The collection, interpretation and implementation and even protection of data contribute to some of the best jobs of the year,” said Kyle Kensing, Online Content Editor, CareerCast. “Demand for the top job — Data Scientist — is high with a 19 per cent growth outlook and annual median salary of $118,370.”
Information Security Analyst, Statistician, and Operations Research Analyst are also on that list. And the importance of skilled Information security analysts cannot be overstated, according to CareerCast — whether that means protecting our individual data, or preventing interference.
Car dealerships did not make the top 10 list of best or worst jobs, but taxi drivers were listed as the worst job in 2019 due to the rising popularity of ride-share apps.
The increase in online sales, which is expected to continue over the next decade, has also ensured the job of Retail Salesperson maintains a low salary and nominal growth outlook. This is because online sales are “limiting the growth” of the number of brick and mortar retail stores, and moderating the demand for retail salespeople.
