Second largest auto show crowd sparks consumer demand for new vehicles in Toronto

At a time when some manufacturers are pulling back on their investment in auto shows, the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto boasted its second best attendance ever.

The 10-day show attracted 357,745 people, set daily attendance records on four days, and an all-time high of 56,634 on the Sunday of Family Day weekend. The organizers announced they just fell shy of the all-time record set last year by about 1,000 people.

The show’s organizers deserve praise for constantly introducing new features and exhibits that keep consumers coming back year after year. Which is all great news for Ontario car dealers since it helps generate excitement for their products.

“The quality of the exhibits on our show floor continues to compare favorably with any global autoshow, and the interactivity we bring to the customer experience resonates not only in our market, but also in the vastly expanding international online community,” says AutoShow General Manager Jason Campbell in a news release. With the crowning of a couple of grand prize winners, a hugely successful 2019 Canadian International AutoShow came to a close Sunday, February 24.

This year’s show kicked off on with the first-ever launch of a Formula 1 team in Canada, and featured special events and exhibits including the inaugural Luxury and Supercar Forum, the North American debuts of the McLaren Senna, Devel Sixteen and the life-sized and fully operational LEGO® TECHNIC® Bugatti Chiron model.

On media preview day, attended by more than 850 media, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada named the Kia Stinger the Canadian Car of the Year and the Jaguar I-PACE the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year in the annual AJAC Canadian Car of the Year Awards event. Infiniti was also awarded an AJAC innovation award for its VC-Turbo engine, Mercedes Benz for its MBUX user experience, and Subaru for its DriverFocus safety feature.

Next year’s event will take place Feb. 14-23, 2020. For more info visit: www.autoshow.ca
