A Smiths Falls car dealer has been suspended by the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC) due to consumer complaints and an OMVIC inspection.
The dealer is Tom Pirie Motor Sales, located at 190 Lombard Street, Smiths Falls, Ont., with Thomas Pirie as its officer and director. Neither are legally allowed to sell, lease, buy or consign motor vehicles while suspended.
Immediate suspension orders are typically issued when the regulator believes a “dealer’s conduct may place the car-buying public at risk,” according to John Carmichael, OMVIC CEO and Registrar.
The OMVIC states the dealer allegedly:
- did not remove liens from vehicles traded in, leaving consumers responsible for the debts
- sold 46 vehicles without first discharging liens registered against the vehicles
- failed to remit payments to an extended warranty company for 24 warranties, thereby putting customers at risk of not having coverage
- obstructed an inspection
- failed to provide records to the Registrar as required
Pirie also operates RV Kemptville, located at 2651 County Road 43, Kemptville, Ont. Its registration was terminated after lapsing on February 10, and they are no longer legally allowed to sell, lease, buy or consign motor vehicles.
