Upgrading the service department

Digital retailing and dealership system providers were not the only ones generating interest among the crowd at NADA this year: businesses like Metalia, that focus on modular cabinets, workstations and tool boxes, were also there to meet dealer demands to upgrade their workshop.

“Dealers want to be able to change cabinets. Honestly, for all dealers their basic needs are sort of the same, but for some smaller dealerships we will build a little workstation for each technician,” said Pierre-Olivier Benoit, Director Sales & Marketing at Metalia. “For the larger ones, we might do a wall to wall. More and more customers are seeing their workshop, and we want to make it appear clean, among other things.”

Benoit attended the NADA event to get feedback on the company’s products, to grow their network in the U.S., and to show off some of the items in their lineup at their booth. Some of their more popular products include their cabinet offering and integrated lift controls.

One of the products they had on display was a battery lift controlled unit that can be integrated into the Metalia workbench for easy access, and for a cleaner look. “That’s something that all the dealerships want moving forward,” said Benoit. “This is the first time we are showing this.”

Benoit said the style of the product is not only important (to provide that clean look for dealer workshops) — the productivity that dealers get out of it must also be satisfactory, and it must be safe to operate.

Metalia also keeps things simple with colour options. “Some companies offer different colours depending on the OEM, but we offer one standard colour and that’s something quite unique to us,” said Benoit.
