Cox Automotive Canada has officially wrapped up its summer food drive campaign known as Drive Away Hunger, which aims to ensure that local community food banks receive abundant donations during what is considered to be a challenging period in the year.
According to the company’s news release, nearly one million people (including more than 300,000 children) reply on Canadian food banks during the summer, when donations typically and drastically decrease. The issue can in turn cause “great damage to families and individuals” suffering from food insecurity.
“Hunger, as we all know, doesn’t take a summer vacation,” said Cox Automotive Canada President Maria Soklis. “The support that Cox Automotive Canada offers is deeply rooted in our fellow Cox Automotive communities around the world. We are connected by a common value of community involvement, and Drive Away Hunger is just one way that our team can demonstrate its commitment to the communities we live and work in.”
Their goal this year was to beat their previous years’ donations by 10 per cent. Their efforts resulted in the accumulation of 7,141 pounds of food.
Cox Automotive Canada, in support of Food Banks Canada, has also extended an invitation to fellow Canadians to take the #SummerHungerChallenge.
