Automotive supplier Magna International has developed a high-tech mirror for vehicles that raises a driver’s awareness while improving safety, said the company in a news release. The ClearView outside mirror uses a regulatory-compliant side-view mirror with a self-cleaning camera to display a live feed inside the vehicle of what is behind it.
The mirror includes features such as turn signals, ground illumination and surround-view cameras and has the ability to switch between a traditional rear-view mirror and a full-size video display.
The video inside the car comes from a camera mounted at the back of the vehicle to provide an unobstructed rear view, which can be particularly helpful if passengers and/or cargo inside the vehicle obstruct the driver’s view using the traditional rear-view mirror, said the company in the release.
“The ClearView system combines our leading vision-based expertise with our unmatched mirror capabilities to create a solution that increases safety and gives the driver more information about their immediate surroundings,” said John O’Hara, President of Magna Closures and Mirrors in a news release.
