According to a new poll by Swapalease, many U.S. dealers are seeing opportunity for lease deals on used cars and trucks.
Around three-quarters of the 250 automotive executives and dealerships surveyed across the U.S. believe used lease offers could help move the influx of leases coming back onto their lots. Almost 80 per cent of the consumers surveyed said they would consider a deal on a used lease.
The survey also looked into payment expectations, maintenance and warranty, types of vehicles being leased and leasing flexibility, though it found disconnects between dealer and consumer thinking.
For example, only 21 per cent of dealers said they feel warranty issues are important to shoppers considering a used car or truck lease. However, the survey found a little over 95 per cent of drivers said they would expect a warranty to be offered on a used car or truck lease.
There were also differences between drivers and dealers when it came to top vehicle choices for a used lease. Drivers said their top three choices for domestic cars and trucks to the U.S. would be the Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac CTS and Jeep Cherokee. But most dealers said they would want to offer used lease deals on a Buick Regal, Cadillac CTS and Chevrolet Cruze.
When it came to lease flexibility, many consumers indicated they would either like to extend their lease between six to 12 months at the end of the term or transfer into a lease that was older than three years. But nearly half (47 per cent) of dealers said they would like to make car shopping more like shopping for an iPhone, where consumers get a new smartphone every two years.
