At the Paris Motor Show later this month, Lexus will officially unveil its LF-CC hybrid concept. This, another dramatic coupe, which follows on from the well received LF-LC concept unveiled at the North American International Auto Show last year, boasts similar styling cues and also a hybrid driveline, though this time, details are more specific. The LF-CC uses a direct-injection, 2.5-litre gasoline engine in conjunction with a high output electric motor and power-split device that controls multiple inputs and sends them to the rear wheels. A version of this full-hybrid system is being earmarked for future Lexus models, in an effort to further establish the brand’s “green” credentials, especially considering the popularity of the Prius family at sister division Toyota Motor Co. Like the LF-LC, this new coupe concept emphasizes the new L-Finesse design language first introduced with the 2013 GS, which includes among other things, a trademark “spindle” grille, bodywork stretched tight over the fenders and a full width rear bumper.
Executives at Lexus have said they want the brand to offer cars with more expressive styling and personality and there’s a good chance that the LF-CC could become a production GS coupe, marking the first time such a body style has been offered in the GS series. A production version of the LF-CC is reportedly being ready for a 2014 launch though some industry observers believe it could come to market sooner, possibly as early as next year.
