Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd, announced this week that it had retained the title of best selling automaker for August. Ford said that although sales slipped 1.8 per cent, a total of 25,461 vehicles for the month still placed it ahead of its nearest rival.
Although the automaker witnessed a 9.2 per cent drop in total car sales; truck demand was up 8.1 per cent, aided by the popularity of the F-150 pickup and Escape SUV.
“The Canadian industry continues to show steady growth, and at Ford we are seeing an increasing number of customers in our showrooms,” declared Dianne Craig, Ford of Canada’s CEO.
Although Ford retained the title of best selling vehicle brand, Chrysler Group demonstrated a strong performance for the month; sales increasing by 9 per cent versus August 2011.
Total sales for Chrysler Group vehicles, across its Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram brands stood at 20,569 units. According to Dave Buckingham, COO for Chrysler Canada, the automaker “is positioned for even further growth,” bolstered by the recently introduced Dodge Dart compact, which aims to battle it out in one of Canada’s most hotly contested segments.
South of the border in the U.S., auto sales showed a slow but steady recovery in August; both Ford and Chrysler reporting sales gains that slightly outstripped expectations.
