Montreal kicks off Canadian auto show season

The new MINI Cooper convertible created a buzz.

The Montreal International Auto Show is in full swing, as the first show to kick off the Canadian auto show season. This year’s event is the 44th Edition and takes place at the Palais des congrès de Montréal from January 13 to 22, 2012. During a whirlwind press day on Thursday, dozens of journalists witnessed 40 Canadian and two North American premieres.

Apart from the premieres, each of the manufacturers gave a brief update to the press about their company’s performance in 2011 and their plans for 2012 and beyond.

Along with all their new models on display by the manufacturers, the Auto Show offered visitors all-new special attractions such as the Level 7 Performance Zone, presented by Scion, where a stunning collection of about 40 modified vehicles were on display.

Another fun display at this year’s event was incredibly detailed racing simulators that gave visitors a chance to experience the chills and thrills of real Formula 1 racing. The simulator shakes and vibrates as drivers speed around a snow-covered track.

An all-new exhibit: The “Légendes de la route” made its appearance exclusively at the MIAS for the first time. This exhibit tells the story and retraces the evolution of some of the most iconic automobiles ever created, through the presentation of eight amazing models on display on level 5. These unique and breathtaking vehicles are part of the “Légendes de la route” series, that premiered on January 9th on the French Historia network.

Auto Show President, Mr. Pascal Dandurand, and official spokesperson, Bertrand Godin, were on hand to greet the media on Thursday, January 19, during the sneak preview media day.

January 16, 17 and 18 are designated “Pink Days” in support of breast cancer research. During these three (3) days, the MIAS says it will donate $2 to the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation for every ticket sold to a visitor wearing either a pink garment or pink accessory. The MIAS is proud to contribute to such a worthy cause.

This year’s Grand Prize in the auto show’s contest is a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, courtesy of Chrysler Canada. The drawing takes place at the show on Sunday, January 22.
