Toyota Canada donates $100K to StopGap

The StopGap Foundation, a Canadian charity, recently announced a new national partnership with Toyota Canada that will see the OEM donate $100,000 to support its School Project.

The charity’s goal is to raise awareness about the importance of accessibility and inclusion for people in Canada with limited mobility. It has provided ramps to business owners, including deployable custom wooden ones.

“StopGap is a visionary organization that, by implementing a simple yet highly effective solution, has opened up hundreds of businesses across the country to people living with a disability or limited mobility,” said Stephen Beatty, Vice President, Corporate, Toyota Canada Inc.

The partnership was announced by StopGap during its annual fundraising event in November, and is meant to contribute to the development and growth of the company’s project — along with its other programs.

StopGap’s School Project, Community Ramp Project, and Corporate Team Building program aims to ensure Canadians understand that barriers to access (such as access to building entries) can hold people back from reaching their full potential.

“We will all experience a shift in the way we move, whether it’s becoming a parent, sustaining an injury, a job requirement, or simply aging,” said Luke Anderson, StopGap Foundation Executive Director and Co-founder. “At some point in our lives, we will need to rely on a barrier-free amenity, so it’s important that our world is designed and built to accommodate these shifts to maximize independence and spontaneity.”
