The highlight of the CADA Summit for many dealers we talked with, was the day’s last session. That’s when former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney had a fireside chat style discussion moderated by Huw Williams, CADA’s Director of Public Affairs.
Mulroney shared his thoughts on the state of the talks for renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and shared insightful and personal experiences of what went on behind the scenes when he reached the agreement with former U.S. President Ronald Reagan.
He also reminded Canadians to stand up for themselves, and noted the difficulty the country will face dealing with someone as unpredictable as U.S. President Donald Trump. He balanced positivity with realistic expectations. “There are no perfect governments and there’s nothing perfect in this situation,” said Mulroney. “Can we scramble nimbly enough, and with enough intelligence and sophistication, to bring together a renaissance of NAFTA? I think we can. I think it can be done, but it’s not going to be easy.”
The CADA Summit is organized by the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association, and is supported by an exclusive sponsorship with TD Auto Finance.
