Toyota, Lexus win residual crown again in Canada

Toyota and Lexus took the top brand honours in the J.D. Power 2026 Canada ALG Residual Value Awards, which recognize vehicle brands and models expected to hold the strongest resale value in their segments.

The awards matter to dealers and customers because residual value forecasts influence lease payments, trade-in values and long-term demand — all key factors in vehicle affordability and inventory planning. Toyota earned the mass-market brand award for a seventh consecutive year, while Lexus won the premium brand award for a sixth straight year.

“Brands that consistently retain higher RVs have a broad vehicle line-up that appeals to many customers and with that, do not over-complicate their vehicles,” said Danny Battaglia, Managing Director of ALG Customer Success at J.D. Power, in a statement. “Additionally, pricing plays a big role here. Staying competitive in the market while maintaining their reliability and emotional appeal ensures the top brands stay at the top.”

For the 2026 model year, J.D. Power said 13 different brands received awards across 26 segments, based on analysis of 294 model lines. The evaluation factors include used-vehicle performance, brand outlook and product competitiveness.

Toyota took the most model-level awards, with six, including Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Corolla Cross, Tundra, Tacoma and Sienna. Lexus model winners included NX, UX and LX. Other model-level winners included Chevrolet Tahoe, Corvette and Silverado 3500 HD; GMC Yukon and multiple Hummer EV variants; Subaru Forester, WRX and Solterra; and Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 4-Door and CLA, among others.
