Plug and Charge goes private

A new partnership between Emobi and Flipturn aims to bring two features usually associated with public electric vehicle charging networks — roaming and Plug & Charge-ready authentication — to customer-managed charging sites, including workplaces, fleets, multifamily properties and dealerships.

Under the agreement, Flipturn has integrated Emobi’s roaming and authentication capabilities into its managed charging ecosystem. The goal is to make Flipturn-managed chargers easier to find, access and pay for through participating automaker platforms, fleet management tools and consumer charging apps, without site owners giving up control of pricing or operations.

“Customer-managed charging sites are one of the fastest-growing segments in the EV ecosystem, yet they’ve historically been isolated from roaming and Plug & Charge innovations,” said Lin Sun Fa, CEO of Emobi, in a statement. “Partnering with Flipturn bridges that divide.”

Sun Fa said the partnership gives fleets, property owners, and workplaces the ability to deliver more modern charging experiences using the infrastructure they already have. “This is a major step toward simplifying EV charging at every type of site.”

The companies said the integration creates a future pathway for Flipturn sites to become “preferred” locations eligible for Emobi’s JustPlug technology, a cloud-based Plug & Charge platform built on ISO 15118 authentication.

For dealers it’s worth noting that charging on lots is only valuable if customers can actually use the device without friction. Roaming and Plug & Charge-ready infrastructure can reduce app confusion, support service customers and EV shoppers, and help turn dealership chargers into a practical asset rather than a stranded capital expense.
