Canada’s electric vehicle market has crossed a notable pricing threshold with the arrival of the 2026 Kia EV4, which enters the market with a starting price of $38,995.
Kia Canada announced in December that the all-electric compact sedan is now available for order nationwide, making it the first dedicated EV currently on sale in Canada to start below the $40,000 mark. The EV4 is Kia’s first global electric sedan and will be built for the Canadian market at the automaker’s Autoland Gwangmyeong EVO Plant in South Korea.
“The Kia EV4 provides the first accessible, all-electric sedan to Canadian consumers who are looking for affordability, without sacrificing advanced technology, cutting edge styling, and the driving experience only a sedan can deliver,” said David Sherrard, Director of Strategic Planning for Kia Canada, in a statement.
The EV4 arrives at a time when affordability has become a growing concern for EV buyers, particularly as incentive programs tighten and average transaction prices remain elevated. Kia says the EV4 is designed to offer a lower-cost entry point into electric ownership without compromising range or core technology.
A sub-$40,000 EV also changes the sales conversation for dealers and their clients. Lower entry pricing could widen the pool of EV shoppers, reduce reliance on incentives and help address consumer concerns around value as the market shifts from early adopters to mainstream buyers.
