Communauto to double size of carsharing fleet in Toronto

Communauto has announced that it will double the size of its fleet in Toronto, Ont., to 1,300 cars by the end of the year as it aims to solidify its position in the city.

The growth of its fleet brings the service to all Toronto boroughs, now including North York and Etobicoke, while adding larger models to cater to different consumer needs.

In a statement, Marco Viviani, Vice-President of Strategic Development at Communauto, said the City of Toronto’s decision to lift the cap on permits for carsharing companies means Communauto can meet a growing demand for their services.

“Carsharing is key to reducing traffic congestion, cutting carbon emissions, and lowering the financial burden of car ownership,” said Viviani. “This expansion allows us to extend those benefits to even more people across the city.”

The company said it remains committed to providing competitive pricing, despite the increase in costs associated with managing a fleet.

Communauto offers two services: a one-way FLEX service for users to pick up a car and drop it off anywhere within the service area, and a round-trip service that is more ideal for planned trips where consumers may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.
