Following a flat June performance, DesRosiers Automotive Consultants said July light vehicle sales bounced back to an appreciable 11.0% gain from 2023 levels.
However, they also note that July 2023 was not a great month, and so a gain was anticipated either way for July 2024. This was particularly the case following June sales, which were impacted by the CDK software outage.
“What was of note in July was that performance varied widely by vehicle company, with some players recording sales declines while others enjoyed truly remarkable sales success,” said Andrew King, Managing Partner of DAC, in a statement.
Overall sales for July came in at an estimated 161,000 units. DAC described this as respectable, but still notably below the 170,000-185,000 units in pre-pandemic July years.
The SAAR for the month came in at 1.77 million, which is higher than every month in the second quarter of the year. However, it is also lower than every month in the first quarter.
“We will be watching closely to see how August performs and if some stability returns to the marketplace,” said DAC in its update.
