Eight municipalities across Canada will receive Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations through Aviva Canada’s 2024 Charged for Change program in partnership with Earth Day Canada, the company recently announced.
In a news release, Aviva Canada said the program aims to bring chargers to municipalities that currently lack EV infrastructure. Some of the areas that will receive the chargers are: Town of Okotoks, Alta.; Municipality of Lakeshore, Ont.; and Municipalité de Chertsey, Qué.
“We know that the lack of public charging infrastructure can be a major barrier to Canadians choosing to purchase an EV. The goal of Charged for Change is to help level the playing field for municipalities with insufficient access,” said Paul Fletcher, Aviva’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, in a statement.
“In the inaugural year of the program, we expect 37 electric vehicle charging heads to be installed. Every charger makes a difference,” he added.
The other areas that will receive charges are in New Brunswick: Communauté rurale de Kedgwick, Municipalité des Hautes-Terres, Town of Grand Bay-Westfield, Village de Bois-Joli, and Ville régionale de Cap-Acadie.
Municipalities across the country can apply for funding to receive Level 2 EV charging stations through the $3 million partnership (over three years) between Aviva Canada and Earth Day Canada. In 2023, seven municipalities in Ontario received Level 2 charging stations as part of the program, which is open to submissions across Canada.
