The federal government recently announced $2,547,500 in funding for British Columbia-based Quantum Technology to scale-up production of its green hydrogen technology meant to help power more zero-emission vehicles.
The announcement came from Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for PacifiCan. Quantum Technology manufactures equipment that helps purify and liquefy gases, such as hydrogen and helium. The gases in turn can be used as a carbon-free energy source.
“(The) announcement will help Quantum Technology meet global demand for its innovations and create good local jobs,” said Sajjan in a statement. “This investment demonstrates PacifiCan’s commitment to positioning B.C. as a leader in clean technology.”
In a news release, Pacific Economic Development Canada said Quantum Technology is the first Canadian company to produce the type of equipment (used to purify and liquefy gases) on a large scale. The work aims to advance clean energy projects around the globe — including powering ZEVs.
Quantum Technology will use the funding to improve its manufacturing process and product design, and increase its workforce. In B.C., its expansion means the company can provide greater access to hydrogen as a fuel source.
“The Government of Canada’s investment of over $2.5 million will help Quantum Technology grow to meet Canadian and global market demand in this energy dense net zero fuel,” said Patrick Weiler, Member of Parliament West Vancouver — Sunshine Coast — Sea to Sky Country.
