iZEV program helps 100K Canadians, businesses

So far, more than 100,000 Canadians have taken advantage of the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) program—a new milestone for the federal government, according to Transport Canada.

Specifically, and as of July, the Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra said it helped more than 100,000 Canadian individuals and businesses buy or lease a ZEV.

“Canadians continue to remind us that addressing climate change is a top priority and the time to act is now,” said Alghabra. “By making zero-emission vehicles more affordable, we put more of them on the road and reduce pollution in our cities and towns, while protecting the planet for future generations.”

The federal government provided additional funding (of more than $287 million) last fall to keep the program running, bringing the total funding of the program to more than $587 million.

In June, the government also set a mandatory target for all new light-duty car and passenger truck sales to be zero-emission by 2035, accelerating its previous goal of 100 per cent sales by 2040. It plans to reach that goal with a combination of regulations and other measures to boost both supply and demand of ZEVs. (More on that here.)
