Toyota, Subaru and Ford are the top three brands where 2020 light vehicle sales per dealer franchise for the mass market are concerned, according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants (DAC).
Last year, Toyota light vehicle sales per dealer franchise reached 691, Subaru reached 555 sales, and Ford managed 536. For 2020 light vehicle sales per dealer franchise on the luxury side, Mercedes-Benz claimed first place with 600 sales, followed by Lexus with 534, and Audi with 528 sales.
“Looking at total dealer counts for 2020, overall numbers remained fairly stable with 3,706 new vehicle dealer franchises active as of year-end, up by just two from 2019,” said DAC.
At the brand level, DAC said Genesis added six franchises compared to 2019, while Ford added three and Fiat and Jaguar-Land Rover added two, respectively. Audi and Hyundai each added one. DAC said several brands also noted dealer franchise count decreases for 2020 — although it was constrained to between one and three locations.
“As a result of stable dealer franchise counts coupled with the diminished sales of 2020, most brands have seen their sales per dealer franchise figures decrease sharply for the year,” said Andrew King, Managing Partner at DAC.
DAC said average sales per dealer franchise across the market declined from 517 units in 2019 to 415 units in 2020 — with the exception of Cadillac, which was up 98 to 102 units sold.
On the top 2020 light vehicle sales per dealer franchise for the mass market and luxury, both brands suffered setbacks since 2019, and the luxury brands only managed a marginally better-than-average performance.
DAC has been working with the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) for more than 25 years monitoring the dealer community across Canada.
