Feds invest in takeCHARGE ZEV projects in NL

The federal government is investing $100,000 in two takeCHARGE projects as part of a joint initiative between Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro.

The initiative aims to help raise awareness about the benefits of owning a zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV) and to provide more information to Canadians.

“Helping our customers make informed decisions about these vehicles is important as they become more available and people are seeking up-to-date, credible information,” said Byron Chubbs, Vice President, Engineering and Energy Supply, Newfoundland Power.

A website was created on ZEVs as part of the first project, allowing customers to compare available models and to calculate the potential savings of buying an electrified car. The second project will include a webinar series and an awareness advertising campaign in the province.

Federal funding for the projects was provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative, while takeCHARGE also invested $100,000 in the project.

“We are spreading the word about zero-emission vehicles,” said Seamus O’Regan Jr., Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources. “By putting more clean vehicles on our roads, we are making our communities healthier, reducing pollution and helping Newfoundlanders get to where they need to go.”
