The federal government is providing $350,000 in funding to the Regional Municipality of York in Ontario to build 70 electric vehicle (EV) level 2 chargers that will be installed across the region.
Tony Van Bynen, Member of Parliament for Newmarket–Aurora, announced the funding on behalf of Seamus O’Regan, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources. The funding is provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP).
“By investing in green infrastructure, we are encouraging zero-emission vehicle travel,” said Bynen. “By providing Canadians with cleaner options on the roads, we will reduce pollution and create a more sustainable future for all.”
ZEVIP was created to support the federal government’s target that all new passenger cars sold in Canada by 2040 will be zero-emission. The government’s slightly broader goal is to achieve overall net-zero emissions by 2050.
“We are providing greener options for Canadians to get where they need to go,” said O’Regan. “This is how we get to net zero by 2050.”
