Tesla chargers added to 28 Parks Canada places

Tesla-donated electric vehicle charging stations are now available for use at 28 of the most popular Parks Canada places, according to a recent announcement from Jonathan Wilkinson, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and the Minister responsible for Parks Canada.

“With the installation of electric vehicle charging stations at more and more Parks Canada places across the country, the Government of Canada is making it easier for Canadians to choose our amazing national parks, national marine conservation areas, national historic sites, or national urban park for their next travel destination, all while reducing emissions, discovering nature, and connecting with history,” said Wilkinson.

The move is part of the federal government’s goal to add charging infrastructure at or near 25 popular Parks Canada places across the nation by 2021. The next step would be to increase that number to 50 of the most popular Parks Canada places in Canada by 2025.

Goal one has already been met, thanks to a Tesla donation of more than 350 charging stations in 2019. So far, 172 EV charging stations have been installed in 14 national parks, 12 national historic sites, one national marine conservation area, and in Rouge National Urban Park.

Each location has a combination of Tesla and J-1772 charging stations and are free-of-charge, though entry fees may be applied. The J-1772 are for everyone, while the Tesla charging stations may be specific to Tesla-only vehicles.
