Genesis has once again placed first in the J.D. Power 2019 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS). Compared with all automotive brands, Genesis led both the premium segment as well as the overall industry in initial quality, earning a score of 63 problems experienced per (PP) 100 vehicles.
This score gives Genesis the distinction of being the top-ranked brand for the second consecutive year and represents a year-over-year improvement of five points.
Recognized for its performance, advanced technologies, and easy-to-use infotainment system, the young Genesis brand continues to outperform the competition. “We are thrilled to be recognized for the industry’s highest quality by J.D. Power for the second consecutive year — particularly because we are a relatively young brand,” said Manfred Fitgerald, Executive Vice President and Global Head of the Genesis Brand. “This is a testament of our promise to deliver the most desirable products for our customers. We will continue to hold our products, brands, and customer experience to the highest standards in all facets.”
For four decades the IQS study has served as an industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality. The study was designed to provide manufacturers with information that would help identify problems and ultimately drive product improvement.
2019’s study is based on data collected from 76, 256 purchasers and lessees. To take part in the IQS study, customers purchased or leased a 2019 model year vehicle between November 2018 and February 2019 and completed an IQS survey ninety days following their purchase.
Based on this year’s IQS, the Genesis brand came out on top in a number of different areas. In addition to being the top brand, Genesis was named the top-ranked premium brand for the third consecutive year. Not to be outdone, the Genesis G70 scored 60 PP100 in its first sales year — more than 30 points higher than the average for the compact premium car category.
