Future of Mobility considers changes to Canadian auto industry

This year’s Future of Mobility – Automotive Tech Symposium focused on whether or not the Canadian automotive industry is ready to handle the wave of transformative changes coming its way. The event was held at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto, Ont. on November 1.

Panelists debated on a number of questions, including what the pending transformative changes are, and if companies (including dealerships) — along with academia and government, are ready to deal with these changes.

“Collectively, we need to leverage the change taking place to maintain our relevance and competitiveness in the market,” said Dunstan Peter, President and CEO of Trinity Tech Inc.

“This symposium brought together innovators who can help everyone to understand the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead. Traditional auto plays must make strategic moves to get ahead of the disruption.”

One panelist believes there will be more change in the next five years than what has taken place over the past 50 years.

The symposium was attended by automotive manufacturers, suppliers, tech partners, policy-decision makers, academia and investors, according to the news release. One of its main goals was to discuss how Canada can take advantage of the mobility revolution that is currently taking place in the auto industry.
