There’s a parallel between car shopping and dating, says Hyundai Auto Canada, which is why the company is partnering with the Tinder dating app to promote the Ioniq. A contest running through the end of August invites contestants to ‘swipe right’ when they see a Hyundai-promoted profile for celebrities Jasmine Lorimer and Joey Scarpellino.
That gives them entry to the Hyundai Ultimate Date contest, and a chance for six winners to go out on a date in an Iconiq with Lorimer in Toronto or Scarpellino in Montreal this September.
The first eco vehicle to offer three electrified powertrains in one platform, the Iconiq demanded an innovative marketing approach, said Lawrence Hamilton, director of marketing with Hyundai Auto Canada.
“The market positioning hinges on the concept of ‘Unexpectedly Electrifying’, which got us thinking about other experiences that surprise people and involve first impressions, getting to know someone or something new, and potentially making decisions with long-term implications,” he said. “We’re all looking for the right combination of traits when it comes to dating or car shopping.”
From September to March, Hyundai will continue the theme with a national contest for Canadians to with a monthly prize of a $200 gift card and the chance to cruise around in the Iconiq on a date.
