Both the Québec and Ontario Courts have granted approval to the Volkswagen and Audi nationwide settlement agreement related to the diesel emissions scandal first exposed in 2015.
Under the settlement’s terms, owners and lessees of Volkswagen and Audi 2.0L TDI vehicles are eligible for either cash payments, trading in or selling their vehicle, terminating their lease early without penalty, or keeping their vehicle while receiving an emissions modification and regulator-approved emissions warranty.
“This settlement responds to the concerns raised by our clients and we are pleased that it will now be implemented,” said Charles Wright, a partner at Siskinds LLP and a lead counsel for vehicle owners, in a statement released April 21.
Among the approximately 105,000 vehicles affected across Canada are the following:
- VW Jetta, 2009-2015
- VW Jetta Wagon, 2009
- VW Golf, 2010-2013, 2015
- VW Golf Wagon, 2010-2014
- Audi A3, 2010-2013, 2015
- VW Passat, 2012-2015
- VW Beetle, 2013-2015
- VW Golf SportsWagen, 2015
Canadian settlement class members and U.S. customers with vehicles first sold or leased in Canada can submit claims online, in paper form or by telephone, starting on April 28.
