The U.S. Patent Board has crowned General Motors number one in its quarterly report.
The report outlined GM as the number one innovator of the 182 companies in the Board’s report.
The parameters for the report were based on measurements such as number of patents, impact on the industry, as well as strength in the areas of technology and science.
GM also ranked first in the automotive/transportation sector in the previous scorecard, published in January.
“We focus on inventions that make our vehicles more sustainable,” said Alan Taub, GM’s vice president of R&D. “Our engineers are developing advanced technologies that increase fuel efficiency and ensure safety while maintaining the excitement of personal mobility.”
During the past 10 years, GM has increased its patent filings six-fold. The Patent Board also recognized that GM received more clean-air patents last year than any other organization (according to the Clean Energy Patent Growth Index).
