Seasonally-adjusted price index on a five-month climb
ADESA Canada’s Used Vehicle Price Index for continued to climb through September, increasing by approximately 0.5 points from August, seasonally adjusted.
“As we closed out 3Q10, the number of units going through auction in September remained at or near August levels, helping to provide price support to four out of the six segment classes,” ADESA said.
The greatest price increase occurred in the full-size pickup segment, which saw a 7-percent ($891) rebound from August levels. That improvement was followed by a 3-percent ($299) rebound in the compact SUV segment.
This trend in the resale market reflects what is happening in the new-vehicle market, where new light-truck sales continue to outpace passenger-car sales. New light truck sales for the month are up 12.2 percent over last September and year-to-date sales through September are up 19.8 percent over 2009.
Rounding out the month-over-month segment price increases are minivan and mid-compact segments, reporting 2-percent ($125) and 1-percent ($31) increases, respectively.
Weaker prices were reported in the mid-size SUV segment, with a 4 percent ($547) softening, and in the mid-size car segment, which saw a 1 percent ($53) decrease. Both classes realized increases in volume levels from August.
