The world’s first end-to-end OEM vehicle-based parking solutions provider, Parkmobile, has added its full platform of capabilities as an integrated OEM offering to all new BMW vehicles. The company announced the launch of the industry’s first automated on-street and off-street reservations parking at the 2017 International Parking Institute Annual Conference.
BMW cars will be able to leverage Parkmobile’s car navigation system and GPS when parking in Parkmobile enabled locations or on-street spots, in addition to reserving parking directly through the navigation system or companion ParkNow app.
“By embedding real-time parking payment and advanced reservations capabilities into the automobile itself, we complete the circle of delivering a truly seamless parking experience for drivers in any parking scenario,” said Jon Ziglar, Parkmobile’s CEO, in a news release. He added that the expansion of parking solutions applies to all parking platforms including real-time or advance parking options.
“This is a significant step in paving the way for autonomous vehicles of the future to control and manage the end of their journey unassisted,” said Ziglar.
BMW cars will use the dashboard screen to prompt drivers to begin a parking session without having to pay a meter or use the mobile app to initiate a session. Based on GPS coordinates, the vehicle will pre-populate the zone and enable 1-touch parking, similar to the Parkmobile app.
The driver will be able to preselect the amount of time for purchase and can remotely manage and extend sessions through either the Parkmobile app or companion ParkNow app.
Parkmobile’s launch of this new service in BMW cars follows the “successful launch” in 2016 of in-dash reservations into the BMW 5 Series line, said the release.
