Clutch reveals 8 Best Road Trip Cars in Canada for 2025

Cross-border travel to the United States was down 35 per cent this spring and continues to cool, according to online car retailer Clutch. They say more Canadians are staying local and plan to hit the road this summer.

As a result, the company released the “8 Best Road Trip Cars in Canada for 2025” guide for consumers, in which it discussed the best cars for long drives, how to prepare a vehicle for a road trip, and how extra mileage can affect the vehicle’s value. Dealers in Canada may wish to take inspiration from this approach.

Clutch listed comfort, tech and driver assistance, interior space, cargo space and towing (the latter if needed), fuel economy and range, and fun to drive as the qualities that consumers should look for in a road-trip vehicle.

“Not every car is built for long hours on the road. The right road trip vehicle should keep you comfortable, handle your gear with ease, and make the drive itself part of the fun,” said Clutch.

They listed the following as their eight best suggestions: the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, Toyota Grand Highlander, Volkswagen Taos, Honda Civic, Mazda Mazda3 Sport, BMW X3, Subaru Outback Wilderness, and the Tesla Model 3 Long Range.

Clutch also provided a vehicle maintenance checklist, comfort and safety tips, and details on the impact of mileage on a car value.

“With more Canadians exploring their own country this summer, there has never been a better time to hit the road. Whether you are driving across the province or heading on a cross-country adventure, the right vehicle and a little preparation can make your trip safer, more comfortable, and more enjoyable,” said Clutch in its report.
