John White has been named the new President & CEO of the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association (CADA), said CADA Chairman Harry Mertin in a communique issued by the organization.

The former President & CEO for Volkswagen Group of Canada will be replacing Rick Gauthier, who announced his retirement from the role in November 2015.

In his new role, White will lead the national dealer organization from its headquarters in Markham, Ont. and will assume responsibility for its day-to-day management, reporting to the CADA national Board of Directors, said Mertin.

White will be officially introduced to the CADA Board at its spring meeting in Victoria, B.C. on April 18, 2016. Over the next few months, Mertin said White will work closely with Gauthier as they implement an effective transition plan leading to Gauthier’s official departure in July of this year.

“We are very excited about Mr. White joining CADA at this particular time in its history as it prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary later this year,” said Mertin.

White will be well-known to Canadian dealers, having served as President & CEO of Volkswagen Group of Canada from 2008-2013 and in other positions with Volkswagen Credit Canada.

Most recently, White was President & Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Australia from 2013-2015. He’s also held multiple positions with General Motors of Canada.

In addition, White has held numerous board positions with automotive-related organizations and volunteers with Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

White holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree Major, Administrative Management, from Concordia University.
