Taking place at the Innisfail Golf and Country Club, south of Red Deer, Alta., this year’s Rifco Charity Golf Classic raised $39,861.81 for the Haitian Children’s Aid Society (HCAS). Conducted on what could be described as a “perfect” fall day, at a course that is recognized as one of the most stunning Alberta, the 2014 Rifco Charity Golf Classic featured participants from the automotive and financial services industries as well as key Rifco suppliers.

This year’s Rifco Cup Champions were Mark Bodnaryk, George Janousek and Tinh Thai.

The proceeds from the 2014 Charity Golf Classic will be used to rebuild the Haiti orphanage after the devastating earthquake of 2010.

For the past four years Rifco’s staff has chosen to support the orphanage, which is also supported by HCAS, a registered Canadian charity. Founded in 2005, HCAS was born when several adoptive families in Alberta joined forces to “give back” to the community of
Mirebalais, Haiti. Originally, HCAS was formed to provide dedicated fundraising support to the Haiti Children’s Home. Now, since the earthquake of 2010, this faithful group of individuals has committed to support the people of Mirebalais and help empower them to rebuild the orphanage after the earthquake to help achieve a vision of providing essential community services.

Thrilled with the outcome of the 2014 Charity Golf Classic, Rifco Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer Lance Kadatz said that, “after having to reschedule the tournament date due to inclement weather, we are pleased with how everything came together. Although not all of the registered participants could attend the rescheduled date, the support was unwavering.”

In a presentation by a HCAS representative, the participants learned that the donation from the 2013 Rifco Golf Classic resulted in the installation of a solar power system for the orphanage.

The orphanage has struggled with frequent power outages and high electricity costs due to local infrastructure challenges. With the solar power system, the orphanage will have 24 hours of electricity and will save up to $25,000 annually on generation costs. The system became operational the same week the 2014 Charity Golf Classic took place.

The proceeds from this year’s Charity Golf Classic will provide furnishings for three new buildings, which are designed to house up to 60 orphaned Haitian children.

As a result of the success of this year’s event, Rifco has extended a big thank you to the 2014 Charity Golf Classic Sponsors:
